A Long Trek

Jan 3: Kick It. What is the 11th item on my bucket list?

Confession time. I don’t have a numbered bucket list. In fact, I don’t have a written bucket list at all. However, I can think of several things I dream of doing and so I am going to cheat a little bit and talk about one of those. I only have for of those written down. So, in keeping with the spirit of the prompt, I am going to cut the paper up into strips and have my husband shuffle them before I pick one without looking.

Give me five! Minutes, that is..

Drum roll, please…

the-long-trekMy chosen item is to walk across the United States, either for real, or recorded in miles using a wall map. I suppose I should explain the second option. I would mark a starting point on my wall map and draw a line for as many miles as I manage to cover whether I am on a treadmill or walking around Tucson. When I “reach” a landmark area, I will research it, make a video and/or take photos, and then blog about it online. My goal will be reached when I get to New York Harbor.

This walk will require covering 2,426.7 miles

Why would I want to do this?  Well, it is for more than the exercise. It will require me to stay disciplined and take a real interest in places I may or may not have ever visited or even heard about. At the end, I will have a feeling of accomplishment and there is no beating that feeling!

My plan is to cover an average of 8 to 10 miles a week.

I am glad I picked out this one. It is so much more realistic than meeting Simon Le Bon. *sigh*  Not that I won’t jump at the opportunity to do so if it opens up for me 😀 .

Now I have just one more post to go to catch up to the 4th day in the 365 day writing prompt challenge!
